This past weekend Nothern Michigan’s Club lacrosse team took the six hour drive down to Northwood College for the Northwood Invite Tournament. Overall we had three wins and 1 lose. The tournament took place on Saturday and Sunday on Northwood’s practice fields. Our first game was against Michigan Dearborn. The first half score was three to zero Northern. With two minutes to go we found ourselves five to four after giving away 2 stupid fast-breaks. In the end we were able hold on to win five to four. We all needed to sit down and discuss what we did wrong and how to correct these mistakes. Most of the vets concurred that it was just first game jitters and that now we would be ready to roll. The 2nd game Northern game out blazing and we beat Alma University sixteen to two. Now we were playing real Northern lacrosse. Sunday morning we were matched up against Northwood College. Being very similar to the Alma game, we ripped apart Northwood ten to one. At this point we have reached the championship game of the tourny against the division one club team Central Michigan (NMU is a D2 club team). Coming into the we were highly placed underdogs to beat the defined D1 team, but we used this as motivation. Quickly starting the game off we scored a quick goal off a face-off fast break. The bench roared and we all truly thought that would could actually do this. Unfortunately Central scored three consecutive goals to end the the half. This did not face Northern; Being down by two goals on a D1 team is a great accomplisement. As the game came to a close Central polished off the win with three unanswered shots and won seven to four. Although it was a lose on paper, this game gave us motivation for our next tourny at Northen Illinois University. Overall the weekend was a success in winning three out of our four games.

NMU Lacrosse Update (week 5)
My Home Away From Home (week 5)
You walk in and there is a bunch of hoodies and T-shirts hung up in the open door closet. My lacrosse stick and bag are leaning against the wall behind my hoodies in the closet (not much room else to put it). Before you walk into the main room there is a black sheet/blind to block the view of the closet and the bathroom. After passing the entrance, there is two of the the stock desks on the right and the stock dresser in the middle. On top of the dresser I have my twenty six inch Samsung LCD TV. My roomy’s desk has a giant printer on the right and his thinkpad on the left. My Desk has more crap than I can count; it basically has my Macbook in the middle, my vitamins and hand sanitizer on the left, my Xbox 360 on the right leaning against the dresser, pictures of my family and my high school lacrosse team, and a small I-pod boom-box which gets going pretty well on weekends. On the left side of the room there is the two loft sets connected to one another. One of them goes the long way against the left wall and the other goes against the far window wall (which is mine). Underneath my roomy’s loft we have our futon, which is by far the most comfortable peice of furnature we have in the room; I have had many quality naps on that baby. Underneath my loft we have both of our fridges and extra storage for food, laundry, movies/video games, and garbage. Finally in the middle of the room there is an enormous dark green rug, which keeps the floor pretty warm.

The Sunday night game between the Arizona Cardnals and the New York Jets seemed to be a harmless game of football until Wide Receiver Aquan Boldin nearly was decapitated by Safety Eric Smith. When Boldin was in possession of the football in the end-zone Smith went for the extremely illegal helmet to helmet spear. The NFL has fined Smith $50,000 dollars and is suspended for one game. I feel with the money that these pro athletes make the fine should be more severe. Also, the NFL should have Smith come out with a public statement in apology to Boldin for the hit.

Apathy (week 4)
After Hearing Professor Kuehnl Call our College class lazy I figured I should do this word. Apathy means: lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. Society tells us that our youth today has spread apathy nation wide.

Actions (week 4)
My old football once said, “Act as if what you do makes a difference.” In football terms it means to go hard each and every play; it doesn’t matter where you are on the field, you should always be going 100% all the time. In life, I see this quote as going towards your job or school work; Why do something if your not going to put your heart into it?

Olympia (week 4)
Edouard Manet’s Olympia is one of the most scandalous paintings of the 1800’s. The way nude woman in the painting gives eye contact with the viewer was looked down upon in its time. Also, it was later found out that the nude woman in the painting was found to be a local prostitute. The main inspiration for the painting was the Sleeping Venus by Giorione.
De Niro and Pacino
After reading the article De Niro, Pacino film a let-down, I was in shock that the movie only received two and a half stars. Briefly, the movie is about two detectives, Turk and Rooster, and their cover up story on a serial killer. The movie may be a wee bit predictable, but it still has enough action and excitement to receive at least 3 stars. I think the movie critics may have been a little harsh on their gradings because of the fact that De Niro and Pacino were in the same film. Most of them, as well as De Niro and Pacino fans were expecting to see them together at there best. Although the Righteous Kill wasn’t a top box seller of the year I still feel it’s worth going to see.

After the Browns Loss to the Ravens on Sunday night Romeo Crennel said, “Quinn [Brady Quinn] would get more reps in practice this week, and when asked if he could be the starter against Cincy on Sunday, said “That determination hasn’t been made yet.” I think Brady Quinn is not mature enough to take on the responsiblity to carry the Browns on his back. Also, Anderson still gives them the best chance to win. He lead the Browns to a ten and six record last season and just needs a little protection from his line and for his wide-outs to actually catch something.
